The event celebrated 11 alumni enterprises from the inaugural cohort, who collectively unlocked matching grants worth over 65 lakh taka, equivalent to €51,998. Orange Corners Bangladesh empowers Bangladeshi youth to transform their innovative ideas into impactful enterprises. This incubation programme equips young founders leading early-stage businesses with the essential skills, funding, and resources needed to navigate Bangladesh’s growing entrepreneurship landscape.
The Journey of the Inaugural Cohort
The inaugural cohort began its incubation journey in July 2023, selected from a pool of 229 aspiring enterprises. After a rigorous selection process, 14 enterprises were chosen for Cohort 1. Over six months, these enterprises engaged in intensive training programs, expert-led masterclasses, site visits, and monthly coaching sessions, along with numerous networking opportunities.
By the end of the incubation programme in December 2023, 13 of the 14 enterprises successfully graduated, with 11 exceptional alumni securing Track I funding: Vertical Innovations, Countree Agro, BD Recycle, Technologies Limited (BRTL), MasterCourse, Hydrosense, CarboBang, ToguMogu, Drip Irrigation BD Limited, TOYO, Ecolery, and Boichitro.
These enterprises, representing a diverse range of sectors, are united by a common goal: driving positive social and environmental impact. During the ceremony, each enterprise shared their unique journey, highlighting how the support from Orange Corners Bangladesh has been pivotal in their success.
Dina Afsana, Co-founder and Head of Business at Vertical Innovations, captured the spirit of the evening, stating, "As the first cohort, we will always wear Orange Corners as a badge of honor. It’s not just the funding we value, but the invaluable network and support from our partners." This sentiment was echoed throughout the event, emphasizing the comprehensive support system that Orange Corners Bangladesh provides to budding entrepreneurs.
A Foundation for Economic Growth and Innovation
Shazeeb M Khairul Islam, Managing Director of YY Ventures, the implementing partner, opened the ceremony with words of pride and encouragement. He highlighted the diversity and impact of the inaugural cohort, noting that nine of the 14 selected enterprises were led by women.
He further acknowledged the achievements of the cohort, stating, "Today, 11 out of 14 enterprises in Cohort 1 have received matching grants worth over Tk 65 lakh to grow their businesses. If they demonstrate significant progress in the coming months, they can secure a combination of grants and soft loans of up to €50,000 each through Track II funding."
Adding to the excitement, Sara Van Hoeve, First Secretary of Economic Affairs and Private Sector Development at the Embassy of the Netherlands, emphasized the global impact of the Orange Corners initiative. "The Netherlands supports young entrepreneurs through 22 Orange Corners Hubs across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. In Bangladesh, the program launched in 2023. It’s about more than just fostering entrepreneurship; Orange Corners is laying the foundation for economic growth, social impact, and the creation of quality jobs."
